CeraVe Moisturizing Cream for Your Body and Face: Highly Recommended for All My Alligator People!

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream for Your Body and Face: Highly Recommended for All My Alligator People!

cerave moisturizing creamDrugstore moisturizing REALNESS right here.

OK, so the packaging for CeraVe Moisturizing Cream ($18.99 for a 16-oz. jar) is a bit…clinical, and it isn’t particularly schemxy, which is why, if you aren’t in the know, you might end up passing it by, but let me tell you…this jar is a gem! It’s a drugstore miracle for My Fellow Alligator People because it’s so, so moisturizing.

My skin gets dry and itchy this time of year, and this actually keeps my face and body completely moisturized. I can’t even count how many jars I’ve finished. It’s so good! — even arguably the best moisturizer I’ve ever found for super dry-skinned peeps.

The formula is chock-full of hydrating ceramides and hyaluronic acids — ingredients thirsty skin loves — but I think most of the heavy lifting is based on how the ingredients are delivered. The fine folks at CeraVe found a way to time release the moisturizing power slowly over the course of 24 hours, so your skin is constantly receiving hydration all day (and night) long.

Developed with dermatologists, Moisturizing Cream for Normal to Dry Skin has a unique formula that provides 24-hour hydration and helps restore the protective skin barrier with three essential ceramides (1,3,6-II). The formula also contains hyaluronic acid to help retain skin’s natural moisture.

  • With ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II
  • Hyaluronic acid to help retain skin’s moisture
  • Non-comedogenic
  • Fragrance-free, non-irritating formula

cerave moisturizing cream ingredientsWhat’s inside

The thick, rich cream melts right into my skin the moment it hits it. Plus, it’s unscented, so my current favorite fragrance, Lancôme Idole, remains front and center stage.

I use CeraVe Moisturizing Cream on my knees, elbows, shins, feet, hands and cuticles… Heck, even my friend Jane over at Daly Beauty swears by it as a face moisturizer. I usually get the jar that comes with a pump, but it’s also available with a regular ol’ screw top.

Oh, and if you like to save money (um, who doesn’t?), CeraVe has a coupon right now for $4 off any of their products.

So, yeah, this stuff kicks dry scaly skin’s boo-tay! I have to warn you, though — it just might be a CeraVe gateway product. The Moisturizing Cream opened the doorway for me to several other CeraVe loves, including the Hydrating Facial Cleanser, Renewing SA Cleanser, Skin Renewing Night Cream and Healing Ointment. Half my bathroom is now filled with CeraVe, and I’m not mad about it.

Happy New Year’s Eve!

Our plans tonight involve chillin’ at home, watching movies and eating bread! Yup, I made a brioche in my new bread maker yesterday, and it turned out pretty good — soft and a little sweet, with a slightly yeast-y tang.

It’s delicious!

briocheBrioche loves you! That’s the bread maker right behind it, by the way.

briocheCan’t wait for some butter and jam…

Even though I still feel like using the bread maker is kinda “cheating,” I don’t even care! I’m really enjoying it. It just makes it so easy to bake simple loaves. Eventually, I’ll probably end up using it to mix dough, which I’ll then shape and finish in my oven, but for now I’m having fun figuring out what it can do.

I hope you and your loved ones have a safe (and hopefully warm!) NYE. See ya soon in 2021! ?

I’m ready for you, 2021.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I using the Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser and the Skin Renewing Night Cream. It’s only been about three weeks to a month. So far so good. I will be trying this cream and some of their other products. My face is oily/combination. My body is normal to dry but very dry this time of year.

    Hi Karen,
Happy New Year! You must have read my mind. I was hoping that you would post a skincare recommendation. My hands have been extra dry, it’s usually dry this time of year, but with the constant hand washing, hand sanitizing, it’s wreaking havoc on my skin. I like that it keeps the skin hydrated for 24 hours. Most moisturizers don’t last on me. I will definitely have to pick up the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream the next time I go to the drugstore.

Happy 2021! I have been loving the exact same Cerave Moisturizing Cream and use it on my body and face. I bought mine at Costco. At first, I was a little leery of using it on my face, but was really impressed with how it makes my skin feel. I was so impressed that I have since purchased Cerave Skin Renewing Retinol Serum, Skin Renewing Night Cream and the Hydrating Facial Cleanser. I am loving it all! Target has a great selection of Cerave too.

CeraVe changed a lot of their formulas a few years back and they stopped agreeing with my skin. So annoying. I love this stuff as a body cream! The CeraVe Healing Ointment is great for extra dry areas. I’m curious about the new cream to foam cleanser – I find their normal foaming cleanser too drying, but the hydrating causes breakouts for me.

Brioche is so good! I should try to make a brioche sometime – I had really good luck with the Japanese Milk bread I made.

Sounds like a great New Year’s Eve! I’m so glad I don’t have a bread machine because I’d be eating a loaf per day. I hope you’ve been able to find some good GF recipes for El Hub. 🙂

Plus, the formula helps control sebum production and balance the scalp’s pH.

“I got turned on to dpHUE ACV Daily Scalp Serum when I was getting my hair done. The combination of getting highlights and applying chemicals on my head—plus, the overall winter dryness was irritating my scalp. I use this a few times a week on my sensitive scalp to help rebalance things and get rid of itchiness and flakiness,” says Dana Dickey, senior editor at PureWow. “I also massage in a few drops before bed, which helps relax me and stimulates my hair’s pH and growth cycle. It isn’t oily at all and blends in nicely into the scalp. I have been using it consistently daily and definitely feel like my hair is growing with resilience,” says one Sephora reviewer.

Whether you’re sporting your natural curls or rocking a protective style, this scalp serum is dedicated to boosting natural hair. It’s loaded with aloe juice, glycerin and castor oil to restore and refresh dry scalps. Plus, it’s rich in peppermint and lavender oil, which offers a calming sensation to relieve any tension and inflammation.

“It does a great job of cooling [down] irritated spots and does not drip down all over my face. I apply it at night before wrapping up my hair. The problem is if you apply too much product it does cause buildup that can also cause dirt and more irritation,” says one Ulta shopper.

Whether you’re dealing with dryness, flakes or shedding, this scalp serum can help. With a blend of adaptogens and hyaluronic acid, it offers a boost of hydration. There’s also red clover flower extract that soothes and protects your strands against styling. The finishing touch? Peptides to encourage fuller, thicker hair.

For one Sephora shopper, this scalp serum has rescued her dry, flat locks: “I’ve only been using this product for a few days, but I’m already in love! I was worried it would be oily and leave my hair greasy, but it’s so lightweight that you can apply quite a bit and you can’t even tell! It also gives your hair a nice lift, making it look more voluminous. I also have dry, flaky scalp and I think this helps soothe and hydrate it. I’m excited to see the hair growth results! I know this is a pricier item, but I think it’s worth the splurge.”

What to Consider When Buying a Scalp Serum

Your scalp type plays a large role in finding the right serum that addresses your hair needs. Here’s what our experts have to say:

    • If you have an oily scalp, consider formulas that clarify and control oil production. Reslan says ingredients like glycolic acid, apple cider vinegar and charcoal are a great start.
    • If you have a dry scalp, hydrating formulas are the way to go. Godbee suggests water-based, lightweight oils that won’t be too heavy on the scalp (which can create product build up). Instead, look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, tea tree oil and argan oil to hydrate and maintain your scalp’s moisture.
    • If you have thinning areas, you’ll want to find serums that encourage healthy hair growth. Look into zinc, biotin and vitamin-based products (like vitamins A and E) to improve fullness, reduce shedding and repair locks. Philip B. also suggests growth-activating ingredients like Redensyl: “It’s rich in vitamins and essential oils. It also provides nutrients to the scalp and hair follicles and increases the blood flow in the scalp—making hair stronger and thicker.”

    ,

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is a Scalp Serum?

“Scalp serums are concentrated topical formulas that help soothe, nourish and rebalance the scalp,” explains Godbee. “As a hairstylist, I stress to all of my clients the importance of a healthy scalp. It’s the foundation to having healthy, strong hair and encouraging hair growth,” she adds.

What Are the Benefits of Using a Scalp Serum?

Have irritation? Flakes? Dryness? Thinning? There’s probably a serum out there for you. The benefits include (and are not limited to) calming, nourishing and cleansing your scalp. Another major pro of using a scalp serum: it protects and prevents future issues from happening—if you’re consistent, of course. “They are an ideal ‘solution solver’ that [can be] added to the routine [to combat things like] product build up, environmental factors or other common stressors,” adds Philip B.

What Ingredients Should You Avoid in a Scalp Serum?

Find scalp serums that are paraben-, sulfate-, formaldehyde- and silicone-free. These ingredients can increase flakiness, sebum production and shedding. Reslan also points out that some natural ingredients can do more harm than good. “Although there is a conscious effort to avoid commonly known toxic ingredients in hair care, it’s equally important to be aware of natural ingredients that can irritate your scalp or worse, cause thinning,” says Reslan. “Many plant-based hair brands [use] high concentrations of botanical oils [in their products] that can be irritating. If combined with alcohol, the penetration is enhanced on the scalp, which may increase irritation in sensitive individuals. If you’re already thinning, it’s best to avoid these ingredients [altogether].”

What Are the Steps to Using a Scalp Serum?

The experts suggest using a scalp serum daily and following these three steps to get the most out of the product.
    1. Start by combing (or brushing) your hair. Smalls suggest doing this first to get all the tangles out and making it easier to apply the serum. “I recommend using a wide tooth comb to make little ‘lanes.’ These lanes will be where you apply the scalp serum to allow even application directly to the scalp,” he says.
    2. Read the instructions on the dosage. Every scalp serum is different, so read through the instructions on how much to use on your scalp.
    3. Use your fingertips to massage the scalp. Once applied, gently massage the product on the scalp in circular motions. “When using your finger tips to distribute product, try not to run your hands through you hair. Try keeping the product only on the scalp.
    4. Apply more if needed. You can apply a bit more on any areas of concerns.

How Often Should You Use a Scalp Serum?

The frequency will depend on how often you normally wash your hair. That said, all of the experts recommend using a scalp serum on freshly shampooed hair for best results. As Yates explains, “Regardless of application, do NOT apply the serum and then wash your hair. The purpose of the serum is to leave it on for the most effective results.”

It’s a CeraVe Jamboree! Hydrating Facial Cleanser Handles Dry Skin Like a Champ ?

cerave hydrating facial cleanserA staple in my skin care routine

This month I’ll be highlighting skin care products from CeraVe, a most-excellent drugstore brand. It’s a CeraVe jamboree! Kicking off the series is a facial cleansing all star — Hydrating Facial Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin.

    Things that are common knowledge…

  • The third cat is always — always — the gateway cat. ?
  • The second bottle of CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser is the gateway bottle.
  • I’m living proof of that second one, as this is my second bottle of CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser, and I just placed an order for a third and fourth!

In my defense, the fourth bottle will remain on standby for when the third one runs out… Yes, it’s that good. All I have to say to my dry skin is HA! Take that. ?

    cerave hydrating facial cleanser ingredientsIngredients

I have combo skin, so it’s dry in some spots and oily and acne prone in others. I also have quite a few anti-aging and anti-acne products around the house, so my skin is constantly being exfoliated by retinols, acids and benzoyl peroxide… It’s a lot, but this cleanser keeps my skin happy. With it, my skin never gets too dry and never feels painful due to all of the other business happening to it on a daily basis.

    • WHAT IT IS: An unscented, hydrating, creamy and non-foaming facial cleanser for normal and dry skin.
    • IT’S MAIN JOB: To keep the skin barrier (the outermost layers of your skin) happily hydrated using a time-released formula containing ceramides and hyaluronic acid.
    • HOW IT HANDLES MAKEUP: It easily removes light layers of makeup, but I do a double cleanse (as in wash once with this product, then repeat again) just to be extra sure. As for removing long-wearing makeup and/or sunscreens, I recommend using an oil-based cleanser or eye makeup remover first before following up with CeraVe Cleanser.
    • WHAT’S IT SIMILAR TO: If you’ve ever used Cetaphil cleanser and loved it, CeraVe’s is similar in the way it feels and how gentle it cleanses. That said, CeraVe’s cleanser is more moisturizing. With the Cetaphil cleanser, I always have to follow it up with a layer of moisturizer, which I don’t feel the need to do with the CeraVe one.
    • WHO WILL LOVE IT: Someone with dry or combo skin, or someone who uses a number of anti-aging or anti-acne products.

    CeraVe on sale at Ulta

A big 16-oz. bottle with a pump is $15.99 at Ulta, and right now they’re having a buy-one-get-one-40%-off deal.

Don’t sleep on this one, queen!

That’s a great deal! I always wish that CeraVe had a middle ground cleanser between the foaming and the hydrating. The foaming isn’t quite moisturizing enough for me but the hydrating seems to point a neon sign at my pores and increase the struggle with blackheads. It’s a bummer because, like you, I’m on the anti-aging/exfoliating train as well! I’m glad your skin likes it, though! 🙂 And I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I have some catching up to do!

Thanks! I did try the SA lotion and I liked it but my gator knees do a bit better with Amlactin (which I’m sure was also one of your recs!). 🙂 I’ll check out the wash!

I know – I almost never got on the computer or phone over break. We were all quarantined because of a big spike in our area and both the Hubs and I are now recovered covid victims. 🙂 The boys didn’t get it but that’s no surprise since we almost never see them outside of their natural habitat (their rooms). We’re totally fine and, for us, it was like a cold – we would never even have been tested. Anyway, we were all stuck in the house for 10 days but weren’t allowed to mingle. We did have xmas dinner together and luckily have a big enough table to be able to distance. We were set free on NYE at midnight but only one of the boys bolted. The rest of us just hung out in our comfy clothes. 🙂 No complaints!!

I have mature, dry skin and CeraVe Hydrating cleanser is my go to morning cleanser and my follow up at night for my second cleanse (if I need to). Most times, I’ll just use it at night since I have not been wearing much makeup these days. I also recommended it to my son who sometimes has Excema outbreaks. The price point is great as well. I don’t spend money on a cleanser since it does not stay on the face very long.
Happy New Year! Hope it is a better one.

Why the Kitty Cut is the Most Popular Look for Spring

a photo of jenna ortega rocking a kitty cutChristopher Polk/NBC/Getty Images,

ICYMI: Bobs and bangs are poised to take over this spring and the latest haircut trend that’s popping up on our feeds proves this point even further. Meet the kitty cut, a ‘70s-inspired lob that combines generous layers, length and fringe. The pros say it’s going to be the purr-fect style for springtime, so here’s everything you need to know about the kitty cut. Plus, how you can style and maintain the look all season long.

    ,

    Meet the Experts

    • April Kayganich is a hairstylist, educator and network stylist for Hairstory. When she was 26-years-old, she enrolled in cosmetology school and graduated from the Avenue Five Institute in Texas. She is currently a texture specialist and teaches aspiring stylists how to work with all hair types.
    • Juli Akaneya is a New York-based hairstylist who specializes in editorial, advertising and high fashion looks. She has previously worked with brands like Something Navy, Verb and Veronica Beard.

    What is the Kitty Cut?

A kitty cut consists of a lob (long bob), textured layers and grown out fringe. Known as a softer version of the wolf cut, it’s a great option if you’re looking to bring volume, add layers or spruce up your existing style. “The kitty cut is a great transitional cut for anyone who currently has a box bob, shag or curtain bangs. It’s an easy way to grow out your hair,” explains Akenya.

,kitty cut a photo of jenna ortegaMichael Buckner/Contributor/Getty Images

What’s the Difference Between the Kitty Cut and Wolf Cut?

The wolf cut is a shaggy mullet that features lots of texture and choppy layers. Meanwhile, the kitty cut relies on softer, rounded layers that give off a more lived-in look. Although both cuts provide plenty of volume, the kitty cut offers more versatility for all hair textures.

,kitty cut a photo of laura harrierPascal Le Segretain/Staff/Getty Images

Why is the Kitty Cut So Popular Now?

Over the last three months, search for “the kitty cut” has gone up by 200 percent and TikTok has deemed it the trendiest cut of 2024. It helps that A-listers like Jenna Ortega, Laura Harrier and Emily Ratajkowski have been seen rocking versions of the cut (and providing us inspiration). Plus, who doesn’t have a soft spot for fun sounding haircuts that are inspired by animals? From the butterfly to the jellyfish cut, it’s not surprising that the kitty cut is now trending.

    ,

How Do You Achieve the Kitty Cut?

The experts recommend bringing pictures of your desired kitty cut to the appointment. This makes it easier to achieve the look you want based on your hair type, need and preference. From there, the stylist uses a dry cutting technique to follow your natural texture. According to Kayganich, this helps establish the length to “create longer layers through the shape and around the face. The point of this cut is to create subtle movement, and if you create too much shape, you can lose that soft texture.”

,kitty cut a collage with isabela merced, suki waterhouse, tessa thompsonInstagram: @isabelamerced/@lacyredway/Getty Images

Does the Kitty Cut Work On All Hair Types?

Yes, the kitty cut works on all hair types. Whether you have straight, wavy or curly locks, a stylist can tailor the cut to work for you. Akenya notes that curly hair will require a razor or thinning shears to remove some of the weight out of the hair, which provides texture to the cut. She adds, “This method will help the look grow out nicely and not become too voluminous.”

Those with straighter locks will get internal layers, a technique that cuts underneath each section to remove weight out of the hair and create more movement. Kayganich explains this method ensures your stylist doesn’t create too many layers and keeps your length. One more thing: a stylist may take your face shape and hair density into consideration to really get the most of the kitty cut trend.

,kitty cut ruth neggaDia Dipasupil/Staff/Getty Images

How Do You Maintain the Kitty Cut?

The experts recommend getting a trim every three to four months for straight hair, whereas curly and coily folks can extend their cut to every four or five months. “The choppy layers make it very low-maintenance and it’s a great cut for people who don’t want to do too much with their hair or go to the salon too often for a trim. It’s meant to look lived-in!” adds Akenya.

    ,

How Do You Style the Kitty Cut?

This low-maintenance cut doesn’t require much styling. However, if you’re looking to elevate things from time to time, here are some stylist-approved tips to follow:

  • Use a blow dryer and round brush. This combo is great for achieving a voluminous blowout. Just apply heat protectant spray before using a round brush, focusing on the roots for a fuller look.
  • Use a curling wand for more definition. Kayganich suggests a 1- or 1.5-inch curling iron to create piecey layers throughout. Then, apply some styling cream or spray for extra hold and shine.
  • Grab a diffuser. If you have wavy or curly hair, a diffuser will enhance your pattern and minimize frizz. Apply a curly cream or spray before drying your strands.
  • Go the air-dry method. This step requires minimal effort and allows your layers to dry in its natural state. Kayganich suggests using a texturizing spray (or a balm) to emphasize the movement of your layers. Bonus tip: Scrunch product into damp straight or wavy hair. Rake it through wet curly and coily hair to enhance your strands.
  • Play around with hairstyles. “You have versatility because depending on the length, you can wear your hair half up/half down or all up, especially since you have some layering around the face,” says Kayganich.

I always say, “I threw this look on,” but I really did! This took about 10 minutes, not including the few minutes it took to gather my arsenal of supplies, which in this case was not very much. Those are cool-toned grayish-brown lids and rosy beige lips, and I did it right before going to get Connor from school the other day. The highlight was showing it off to a couple of my neighbors when we got home and practiced Connor’s bike riding and did some sidewalk chalk.

I’m telling you, these days, the highlight of my day is often those socially distanced chats with my neighbors. That’s where it’s at!

Anywho, I really like this look. I feel so polished in it and, dare I say, almost cute?!

I like the slight definition on the lids and lashes, the pink blush on my cheeks, the lipstick and the somewhat bushy brows, which are defined but not overly bold.

    Here it is in action…

I’ll definitely wear this again, maybe even on a date night (if one of those ever happens again). Ooh! — or on a girl’s night out, or a Saturday at a museum, whenever we can do those things again. I think you could wear pretty much anything with it.

The full breakdown is below, but I think the eyeshadows are the key. I’m wearing two matte cool-toned shadows — a light taupe-gray called MAC Cozy Grey all over my lids. It’s a workhorse from the permanent collection. And a darker gray-brown called MAC Brun.

I have hooded eyes, and I chose the matte taupe-gray because I wanted to contour my lids. The cooler gray along with the matte finish creates the illusion of a shadow, which I think makes my lids look like they’re more deeply set.

mac cozy grey honest beauty foreverSomebody cut my hair please!

If you’re over 40, or if you have naturally hooded eye, definitely consider adding a matte cool-toned grayish taupe eyeshadow to your collection. I would go with a shade slightly darker than your skin tone — maybe one or two shades — because you want to be able to see the shadow and get that contoured effect, but you don’t want anything too dark; otherwise, you’ll be sitting there blending for days!

duri forever beautiful swatchHere’s a closer look at my nails. I’m wearing Duri Forever Beautiful, an opaque creamy cool pale pink.

In my outer corners, I buffed a tiny touch of matte gray-brown MAC Brun. This shade… SO GOOD. You can also wear it in your brows to fill ’em out, or you can smoke it out over a dark chocolate brown or black base, or even use it as a simple upper or lower lash liner. It’s a staple I turn to over and over again… I’m never without a pan of Brun, it’s that serious!

One last thing I’d like to point out about the eyes, and it might seem subtle at first, but if you look closely at my lash and water lines, there’s a hint of shimmer, which I think really makes the eyes pop. I’m wearing a pencil liner called MAC Prunella, which is a shimmery warm dark purplish bronze. I happen to like how it contrasts with the cooler tones on the lids.

While reviewers have mixed opinions on the scent of the product and the color of the tan it creates, plenty of buyers swear by the stuff. As another shopper says, “I have tried many tanning products but this by far is the best one yet. It looks so natural and doesn’t look orange like some products do. Plus a bonus: It lasts more than a week. Once I get to where I want I just reapply every few days and it looks beautiful.” That said, as with any skincare product, it’s always best to start small to see how your skin reacts before using a large amount. For best results, the brand also advises users to clean and exfoliate the skin in areas where they wish to apply the butter.

Try This Hack for Bold, Bushy, Bangin’ Brows

Try This Hack for Bold, Bushy, Bangin’ Brows

brow tips topA hack for bold but natural-looking brows

Do you ever feel like your brows are out to get you? Like they have an agenda? Like they have ulterior motives?

I do. ? Sometimes they absolutely refuse all orders, totally ignoring my requests, whether I come at them with a brow gel and/or an eyebrow brush.

Do you want fuller, (somewhat) natural-looking brows, but don’t want to have to spend an hour on it and use a ton of product?

If you answered “yes,” then this brow hack is for you! ?

I just started doing this and have gotten some good feedback on my brows lately, so of course I have to share this hack with you, because I’m guessing you’re probably as obsessed with brows as I am. 🙂

First, you’ll need a clear brow gel, your favorite brow filler (pen, pencil, powder, whatevs) and — drumroll please — YOUR FINGERS!

Yes, fingers are the key to this party. ✌️ ?

Start by applying the clear brow gel to your naked brows. There are so many good brow gels out there, BTW (see: Benefit, NUDESTIX, Anastasia), but I’m using the one by MAC now because I like the hold. It gets the job done, but it doesn’t make my brows too stiff.

Don’t be shy, either. Pile that ish on!

brow tips 1Naked brows and bare skin, ’cause that’s how we roll around these parts
brow tips 2Load up the clear brow gel.

Now, instead of grabbing a brow spoolie or a brush comb and running that through the gel, push your brow hairs into place with your fingers.

Yup, that’s right! Simply press and maneuver the hairs exactly where you want them.

The secret is the power of fingertip pressure. ? I think it just works better than a spoolie or a brow brush.

    brow tips 3Press those hairs!
brow tips 4Goofy face completely unnecessary but highly encouraged (ya need to be able to laugh at yourself, ya know?)

My strategery is to push the brow hairs in the inner half of my brow upward, and the hairs in the outer tail slightly up and out. I think that makes the brows look full, fluffy and thick.

At this point, you can proceed with the rest of your makeup while the gel sets, and then when it’s dry fill in any sparse spots in your brows with a pencil, pen or powder.

brow tips 5Fill them in, finish the rest of your makeup, and you’re done!

It’s weird, but when I do this with my fingers, I’m able to get away with using less brow pencil, and I think my brows generally look more natural and less…I dunno…heavy-handed than when I use a brush or another tool?

Please note that most brow gels get stickier after setting for a minute or two, so if you’re there pushing your hairs around, and you feel the gel getting stuck here and stickier, that’s totally normal!

brow tips 6Off to pre-school pickup!

I hope you give this a try. 🙂

    Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

    Karen

That sounds interesting. I don´t do much to my brows other than fill in two sparse parts, but I do use a gel. Will try styling them with my fingers tomorrow and see if that makes a difference in how they look.

    Happy Aloha Brows Friday, Karen!

I will find a way to do this with my soap! Once I deposit soap with the spoolie, using it to style the brow hairs that I do have left irritates my skin, it’s very scratchy. This will be more gentle and put me more in *cue Janet Jacksoncontrol.

Fishing!! So relaxing! I used to do that with my dad when I was very young. Just the two of us would go at the break of dawn to a tiny lake surrounded by woods somewhere in Indiana and it was so peaceful and lovely. Wonderful memories like these really stick so I’m sure your outdoor trips will add beautiful beads to Connor Claire’s “memory necklace.”

We’ll do the usual: Farmers Market, beach (although it’s “cold” here lately — I even ordered a tuque on Etsy!! lol), chilling at home with books.

That sounds peaceful and lovely. Were you the type of kid who liked to keep the fish or let it go? Even though Connor hasn’t officially caught her first fish, I’m pretty sure when it happens she’ll let it go.

This seems like a good tip! I usually only use a tinted brow gel. I don’t think the tinted would work well over the clear? I need to experiment. Good brows can make such a difference!

I think it could work, but you’d have to clean up any gel that spills over onto your skin (it also happens with the clear, but it’s less obvious). Keep me posted on how it goes! I’m curious to know if it works.

I think the reason it works is the same principle as with laminated brows: when brows are “glued” to the skin, they look fuller.

I’ll try it tomorrow with tinted gel, but I think it’ll be messier.

Now my biggest experiment with makeup is doing my blush in a similar to Igari style, I was inspired by Faceonomics old post. And I quite like it because I look like I was doing exercise or like that Instagram filter.

My brows need all the help they can get to look fuller, but I have to leave them a bit long to cover up the bald spots. It’s like an eyebrow comb-over. HAHA! Now I’ll be on the lookout for clear brow gel. 🙂

Eva Longoria’s Oscars Makeup, Explained by Her MUA

Eva Longoria's Oscars makeup: Longoria arrives at the OscarsArturo Holmes / Getty Images,

Eva Longoria has stolen the spotlight on red carpets from here to Cannes, and she really outdid herself in her photo call at the 2024 Oscars. Not only did she slay in a Tamara Ralph gown with a swooping neckline, her makeup was gorgeous. The perfect stylistic blend of TikTok’s “Unapproachable Makeup” (dramatic eyes, fierce contour) and “Espresso Makeup” (shades of brown with a slash of black) trends, Longoria’s dramatic makeup application is all about making her look sexy—and the style is easy to borrow from when we’re making ourselves up at home. We cribbed the products that MUA Elan Bongiorno used to give Longoria her glow-up.

“For Eva’s makeup we decided to do her signature bronzed glowy skin while keeping the focus on her gorgeous eyes,” says Bongiorno. L’Oreal True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer ($17) in Light Glow was applied as a highlighter; what makes this product indispensible is that it can be used in various ways including as a luminous primer, lightweight full-face foundation, highlighter, contour and full body luminizer.

Long-wearing bronzer means those cheekbones you contoured at the beginning of the evening are going to still be defining your cheekbones well into the morning. L’Oreal Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Soft Matte Bronzer ($16) is a win for its matte texture (sparkly blends can look oily in flash photography) and buildable formulation.

“I wanted her eyes to pop so I gave her glamorous lashes with Panorama Mascara ($16), and a classic winged eye look using precision liquid black eyeliner,” says Bongiorno. L’Oreal Infallible Grip Precision Felt Liquid Eyeliner ($13) is waterproof, smudge-resistant and transfer-proof, so it’s going to withstand the tears and tribulations of a long Oscars ceremony and afterparty.

With such dramatic eyes, Longoria’s look is finished with a lip color that is in line with the overall tawny palette, but isn’t too dark or harsh (she’s not going for goth here). This warm nude Colour Riche Original Satin Lipstick ($12) in Toasted Almond is a smidge coral, a little bit brown and a lot chic. On Longoria, think of it as the chef’s kiss to her whole Oscars look.

Chanel Eclosion Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme Lipstick and Boy de Chanel Brows: Bright Lips and a Beret

chanel Eclosion swatch jan 2021Bonne année!

I was going for a little French girl flair today, hence the beret. Admittedly, I’m also wearing it because I didn’t feel like dealing with all the stray, crazy baby hairs sticking out of my head at every angle this morning…so I just covered them up, hahaha!

I need more berets in my life.

chanel ecolsion swatch jan 2021I love this type of makeup look!

What, exactly, is French girl chic? To me, it’s easygoing yet elegant — makeup that isn’t heavy-handed or harsh, so no severe contouring or bladed brows or big spiderweb falsies.

    I’m here for it!

Actually, I’m here for any makeup at all, LOL! I didn’t wear much over the holidays, and it feels good to get back into it.

Here I’m wearing bold but basic lips with just a single lipstick, softly defined eyes, a light cheek flush and a sheer base.

Most of the products I’m wearing are Chanel (French girl vibe and all), with a couple of the pieces from the new Chanel Spring-Summer 2021 collection.

     chanel ecolosion primtempsToday’s color palette

First is a bright, velvety matte reddish coral lipstick called Eclosion. It’s a lightweight, pigmented lipstick that feels so smooth and soft on my lips; however, despite being full coverage and matte, it does transfer a little, so if you’re going around kissing things, including humans, dogs and cats, you’ll leave lipstick marks all over the place.

chanel Eclosion swatch jan 2021Her little face, LOL!

The highlighter I’m wearing on my upper cheekbones is the lighter peach shade from the Fleur de Pritemps highlighter/blush duo. It has a lovely subtle, satin shine and works well with peach and coral blushes, which leads me to Malice blush… Good ol’ Chanel Malice! If you wear warm peachy coral blushes like MAC Melba well, you will LOVE this satiny blush. It’s part of the Chanel permanent collection and looks fantastic with most lip colors. I’ve been wearing and loving it for years.

Last, but certainly not least, the brows! I’m wearing a bolder brown than usual, thanks to Boy de Chanel in Deep Brown, my new favorite brow pencil. It’s from the Boy de Chanel sub-collection, which is marketed as makeup for dudes, but ya know…you won’t turn into a pumpkin or anything if you’re a lady and use it, LOL! I like it because the pencil isn’t too soft and creamy and therefore has a good wear time, and I also like how pigmented it is. Good stuff!

chanel eclosion swatch jan 2021Thank you for your gift of brows, Boy de Chanel Eyebrow Pencil.

    Makeup worn in this look

    • Eyes: Chanel Tisse Vendome Quad (light brown shade on lids, dark brown shades on lash lines), Chanel Espresso Waterproof Eyeliner, Bite Beauty Upswing Mascara, Chanel Boy de Chanel Eyebrow Pencil in Deep Brown
    • Cheeks: Chanel Malice (blush), Chanel Les Beiges in No. 50 (bronzer) and Chanel Fleurs de Printemps (highlighter)
    • Lips: Chanel Eclosion Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme Lipstick
    • Base: Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter in Tan set with Chanel Loose Powder in Translucent 3 (foundation and powder), Estee Lauder 24Hr Hydra Prep Concealer in Medium Deep Warm and Kevyn Aucoin Supernatural Concealer in EC06

    Speaking of berets…

I’m still hoping to find a dark reddish purple beret in a secondhand store one of these days!

    Dare to dream!
